Location: P&A Food Science
The Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences at Clemson University is seeking a lecturer for a full-time (100% Teaching), 12-month non-tenure track position in the Food Science program.
This individual must have a background in Food Science, CulinologyTM, Culinary Science, Culinary Arts or related field. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate food science and culinary science classes that fulfill program needs. The candidate will also be expected to coordinate the activities of the department's Culinary Research Laboratory, advise undergraduate students enrolled in the Food Science program area as well as serve as the director of Clemson's RCA approved CulinologyTM program. Opportunities to participate in food product research and development projects, study abroad programs, and culinary outreach programs are also available. The Chair in the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences will supervise the successful candidate and assign coursework and advising responsibilities. Because this position is within the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences, the successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to interact collegially and collaborate with faculty working in nutrition, food science, and packaging science.
Duties and Responsibilities
The position is described with teaching as the primary focus with additional advising and service components. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching major undergraduate food science courses including culinary fundamentals and fundamentals of baking science, coordinating activities of the department's culinary research laboratory, providing academic advising to students, developing on-line courses, assisting in student recruitment and orientation, and providing service to the program, department, college, and university. Additional courses and responsibilities can be assigned at the discretion of the Chair of the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences.
The candidate must have earned at least a master's degree in food science or a related field with experience in the teaching discipline (food science, CulinologyTM and/or culinary arts) or earned a B.S. degree with at least 5 years' experience in the field of food science, food product development or culinary arts.
