The Department of Human Ecology in the School of Agricultural & Natural Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is currently seeking to enhance and strengthen its fashion merchandising program. CVs are currently being accepted for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position in fashion merchandising/apparel studies/fashion design. The salary is competitive and rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Summer teaching may be available. The position will begin fall 2014.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Fashion Apparel/Merchandising/Design and collaborate with colleagues to create course curriculum that brings together understanding of product development from concept to consumer; develop new innovative courses(including online courses) in the area of fashion design, retail management and marketing, product development, pattern making, and/or related areas; Participate in departmental, campus and school-wide activities; develop an active research agenda; secure external funding through grant writing; engage in professional development/scholarly activities, including presentations and publications; and proactively help to set the vision for the fashion merchandising program. As part of a closely-knit teaching team of faculty and adjunct instructors, the applicant will provide quality research, teaching, mentoring, and support to produce students prepared to compete in the apparel and merchandising industry. Other responsibilities include participating in recruitment activities; academic advising, develop and maintain linkages with related businesses, industry, other institutions, and agencies; and perform other related duties as assigned by Department Chair. The Department of Human Ecology fashion merchandising program aspires to excellence in research on the integration of retail management & marketing , apparel product development, merchandising and design in the apparel industry. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this process, and proactively assist in helping to set the vision for the fashion merchandising program.
