Assistant Professor Position

Fashion Design & Merchandising

The Fashion Design & Merchandising program in the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design at West Virginia University is pleased to invite applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on August 16, 2011. Summer support for the first three years may be available.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position responsibilities consist of teaching courses in two or more of the following areas: (1) product development, (2) sourcing, quality analysis, (3) couture techniques, (4) draping. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will conduct research and/or engage in creative practice, mentor students, and provide service to the university, state, and profession. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Candidates must hold a doctorate, with at least one degree in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines. Computer skills (Lectra, Photoshop, Illustrator) relevant to the position are required. Candidates must meet standard eligibility requirements to work in the United States and must have demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Teaching and professional experiences, strong computer skills relevant to the profession, and evidence of research and successful grant writing are desirable.
