The Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences at Clemson University is seeking a lecturer for a full-time (100% teaching), 9-month, non-tenure track position in the Nutrition program. This individual must have a background in human nutrition or related field with a preference for applicants who have formal education and experience in the following two areas -- quantity food production, and food and culture. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate nutrition classes that fulfill program needs and that are within the candidate's area of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate students enrolled in the Nutrition Program. The Chair in the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences will supervise the successful candidate and assign coursework and advising responsibilities. Because this position is within the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences, the successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to interact collegially and collaborate with faculty working in nutrition, food science, and packaging science.
Duties and Responsibilities: The position is described with teaching as the primary focus with additional advising and service components. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching major and non-major undergraduate nutrition courses, providing academic advising to students, developing on-line courses, assisting in student recruitment and orientation, and providing service to the program, department, college, and university. Additional courses and responsibilities can be assigned at the discretion of the Chair of the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences.
Qualifications: Required - The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the southern states) provides guidelines for faculty teaching baccalaureate courses. The guidelines state that one must have earned a doctorate or master's degree in the teaching discipline (nutrition or related field) or a master's degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline). The successful candidate must also be credentialed as a registered dietitian, have experience in culinary or food service management, and have experience in the area of cultural foods.
Preferred - Work experience in the area of quantity food preparation and teaching experience at any level (hospital, churches, high schools, etc.). Applicants should have excellent oral and written English communication skills and be able to work in teams, solve problems, and use electronic/information technology. Candidates that have proven effectiveness in university teaching will be given priority.
