Assistant Professor- Community Nutrition

The Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences at Clemson University is seeking an assistant/associate professor for a full-time (research/teaching/service), 9-month tenure-track position in Community Nutrition. This individual will have a background in human nutrition or related field with a preference for applicants who have formal education and experience in any area related to community nutrition. The successful candidate is expected to develop a productive research program training undergraduate, graduate, and/or post-doctoral scholars. Teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition classes fulfilling department needs.
The Chair in the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences will supervise the successful candidate and assign coursework. Because this position is within the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences, the successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to interact collegially and collaborate with faculty working in the areas of nutrition, food, and packaging sciences. Duties and Responsibilities: The position is 40% research, 50% teaching, and 10% service. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a nationally recognized research program in community nutrition, teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses, and developing on-line graduate courses. Additional courses and responsibilities can be assigned at the discretion of the chair of the Department of Food, Nutrition and Packaging Sciences.
Qualifications: The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the southern states) provides guidelines for faculty teaching baccalaureate courses of having a doctorate or master's degree in the teaching discipline (nutrition or related field) or a master's degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline). Required - Candidates must have earned a doctorate in Nutrition or closely related field and have at least two years of post-doctoral or other research experience (community or public health focus). Preferred - Candidates who have proven effectiveness in university teaching, experience in designing and implementing community nutrition studies, a record of extramural funding and peer-reviewed publications, and collaborative interactions will be given priority. Candidates who are registered dietitians will be given priority. Applicants should have excellent oral and written English communication skills.
